Job Description
As part of the Project and Cost Management team with AECOM Belgium, the Senior Construction Manager will be able to deliver end-to-end project services within programme deadlines and be responsible for the construction delivery (time, cost, quality) of a new project (labs/research and office building) for UCB in Braine-l’Alleud. This includes managing the delivery of General Contractor and our HSSE requirements and delivering savings on build projects and Programme where appropriate.
To be successful in this role you will need to have a track record in operational delivery of quality and HSSE processes and communication since they are amongst the most important of the construction KPI’s. It is essential to have a strong interaction with the Construction Team to maintain seamless communications and client confidence throughout the project delivery progress.
With strong management and leadership skills to motivate contractors and colleagues you provide excellence in execution and to cope with the fast moving and extremely demanding programme!
Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Manage progress and quality productivity and reporting of the construction and fit-out works on Site.
- Drive the project close out, incl. snagging and de-snagging process.
- Leading Construction Meetings to deliver all the stages of project’s construction; delivery and close out, for example: post tender meetings; cost plan reviews; pre-start meetings; regular site progress meetings; high-quality handovers; financial close meetings; and safety audits
- Managing the General Contractor actions and the interactions of work site activities with the current users of the surrounding buildings will form a large part of this role; the candidate’s duty is to ensure that they perform to required and agreed project execution plans to meet the clients desired outcome
- Daily site presence on-site during construction activities
- Ensuring that work is delivered within the agreed values of AECOM and the client.
- Providing leadership and management for the project allocated to the required schedule, to budget quality and environmental standards.
- Act as the Client representative for all day-to-day Contract matters with the Contractor during the program execution.
- Build and maintain a well-functioning team and relationships with the various parties involved within the project: e.g., client representatives, design, procurement, environment, (sub)contractor(s) and other stakeholders such as technical advisors, operator(s) and end users.
- Delivery of the project against all HSE metrics.
- Attending regular safety meetings, ensuring messages are conveyed to the operational staff and contractors and managing the safety messages into the projects and audit to give confidence that safety is being implemented in accordance with client and AECOM HSSE processes and procedures.
- Feedback safety learnings to the Safety Manager to provide continuous learning for the whole team.
- Providing safety training for operational staff and looking for opportunities to give training to the supply chain.
Qualifications
- Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in project and construction management
- Experience in projects around pharma, chemical sectors or similar.
- Fluent English and French language skills
- Ability to work on-site up to 5 days a week
- HSSE Leadership skills
- Confident and capable individual with strong client focus, able to operate and grow a performing team
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- A leading example in compliance and ethics
