POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Service excellence is to be centered on patient care and patient relationships and is the responsibility of all employees. Teamwork is the norm, and all employees will be held accountable to work as effective team members. Provide/support patient's care by performing tasks and duties consistent with professional standards, ICSI guidelines, and PNHS policies and procedures. In addition, may function in supply aid and/or sterilization capacity. Maintain a safe work area and ensure that it is adequately stocked, cleaned, and organized. Implement cleaning and sterilizing procedures to support infection control and OSHA standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • Graduate of an accredited EMT program

• Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

  • Current EMT License

  • Current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained.

    • On-line BLS certification is not acceptable.

  • Must maintain skill in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling.

  • Demonstrated ability to function with multiple priorities and interruptions.

  • Safely and effectively operate the following: Various Health Testing Equipment (depending upon specialty area), Personal Computer, Printer, FAX Machine, and Telephone.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • At least six months recent (within the last 3 years) experience in a direct patient care setting

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Computer skills preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Perform functions that support / provide patient care.

   1. Patients are roomed according to rooming and/or ICSI guidelines.

   2. Vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements are obtained and recorded accurately.

   3. Expanded medication history collection and updates to ensure quality and accuracy of medication list (according to authorized policy and demonstrating proficiency) and documented according to PNHS policy.

   4. Charts are reviewed for the presence of pertinent information relevant to today’s encounter. This may include Prepared Practice work as developed by the team.

   5. Needed and requested health educational materials are provided to the patient and documented.

   6. Patients and their records are handled in a private and confidential manner per policies.

   7. Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition.

   8. Administers immunizations and medications by any route except intravenous.

   9. Performs set-up and assists physician with diagnostic, therapeutic, or surgical procedures within the scope of practice. Collects and processes lab specimens (ice: finger sticks, venipunctures, urine, and throat cultures).

   10. Exam rooms and treatment rooms are prepared for examination of the patient and set up for procedures.

       1. Patient is prepared for medical interventions.

       2. The exam/procedure room is prepared, and the provider is assisted as needed.

   11. Charts are prepared and station records maintained which may include the following:

       1. MSRs are checked for completion and routed appropriately.

       2. Lab, x-ray, and miscellaneous forms are prepared when requested.

       3. Drug refills are processed according to clinic protocols.

       4. Station logs, (i.e., pap, pathology, etc.) are monitored as assigned.

       5. Prepare charts for patient appointments
