Director, Hands-on Content
PluralsightAbout the role
Job Description:
As the Director, Hands-on Content, you will set the vision and operational strategy for producing and scaling high-quality hands-on experiences for the Pluralsight platform. You will lead a team of individual contributors responsible for delivering hands-on labs and interactive experiences at scale, while driving alignment across Content, Product, and Engineering on the future of hands-on experiences at Pluralsight.
You will be accountable for balancing innovative new ways to deliver hands-on experience with quality and throughput. You’ll partner closely with R&D, Engineering and Product to improve the technical foundations of lab delivery and create a scalable, measurable production system.
Who you’re committed to being:
- A strategic operator who can translate business goals into scalable production systems, measurable outcomes, and technical requirements.
- A technical leader who can engage in platform-level discussions (lab architecture, automation, telemetry, reliability), and guide technical direction without needing to be the primary engineer.
- Comfortable working with technical documentation, structured templates, validation frameworks, and QA systems.
- A proactive problem solver and facilitator; you remove blockers and ensure teams are set up for success by seeking ways to improve processes and iterate on our hands-on experiences.
- A collaborator with a proactive communication style, willing to contribute while also operating autonomously with the ability to lead through change and growth.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and develop Technical Content Producers, drive career growth, performance management, and team structure planning.
- Own the production operating model: intake, prioritization, staffing/capacity planning, delivery forecasting, and roadmap alignment.
- Oversee the production of hands-on labs and experiences across your team, ensuring content meets standards and is delivered to schedule.
- Identify and implement improvements and workflow efficiencies; establish repeatable processes and governance across teams.
- Identify, surface, and mitigate risks associated with project scope and schedules; drive resolution across stakeholders.
- Contribute to content standards and processes.
Experience you’ll bring:
- Technical proficiency in software development, IT Operations, DevOps, Cloud or similar technologies
- Ability to establish technical standards for lab creation including: environment configuration, validation/testing practices, versioning strategy, and maintenance practices.
- Background in lead automation and tooling improvement planning in coordination with R&D, Engineering, and Product to increase lab reliability, reduce production time, and improve learner experience
- Ability to evaluate lab platform capabilities and constraints, and translate them into production standards and team guidance.
- Previous background in an education or instructional environment or similar preferred.
Requirements:
- 5–8+ years of experience in technical content creation, content production, or learning experience delivery.
- 3+ years of people leadership experience, including leading senior ICs and/or managers.
- Demonstrated experience as a technical practitioner (ex: software engineer, systems administrator, cloud engineer, DevOps practitioner, security engineer, or equivalent), with the ability to troubleshoot real-world technical environments.
- Participate in technical deep dives related to lab capabilities, topical accuracy, and delivery
- Strong understanding of hands-on content creation processes and standards, including a strong working knowledge of the technical underpinnings of hands-on platforms and tooling.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives involving Content, Product, Engineering, and Marketing.
- Proven ability to assess multiple project needs, prioritize effectively, and manage tradeoffs across scope, schedule, and quality.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback, coaching, and mentorship; build high-performing teams through development and accountability.
- Experience working in fast-paced teams and the ability to work asynchronously with remote teams across time zones.
- This is a remote role; however, applicants located within 45 miles of our Westlake/Dallas, TX office should expect to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday, with remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays. This approach enables more effective collaboration, quicker decision-making, and a stronger culture, while still providing flexibility.
