Director of Instructional Design
The Instructional Designer leads the Office of Educational Technology & Learning. Working collaboratively with faculty, the Office ensures high-quality design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. This position provides leadership and expertise in curriculum design, LMS administration, faculty development, and educational technology — ensuring that all courses and programs meet established standards for instructional quality, accessibility, and alignment with the University's mission and educational outcomes.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:
- Leads the Office of Instructional Design & Technology; supervises and evaluates the Instructional Technologist
- Serves as the primary project manager for online course creation, redesign, and revision projects, working collaboratively with faculty and subject matter experts to develop engaging, learner-centered content that meets established quality standards, learning objectives, and budgetary constraints
- Maintains comprehensive resource pages dedicated to instructional design and teaching best practices
- Designs, organizes and facilitates faculty development workshops, training sessions, and professional learning opportunities
- Oversees daily LMS operations, user roles, course management, and documentation
- Advises on the effective use of LMS and emerging multimedia technologies
- Evaluates digital learning platforms, subscriptions, educational technology tools and hardware; manages vendor relationships and advises academic leadership on adoption, renewal, and procurement, and budget implications for the University’s digital learning portfolio
- Required: Master’s Degree and 3-5 years’ experience working in higher education
- Demonstrated experience leading course development or redesign projects in higher education; or
- Quality Matters (QM) certification or comparable online course design certification; or
- A combination of education and experience that reflects equivalent preparation for the role
- Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities.
- Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Academic Affairs and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ.
- Strong understanding of online, hybrid, and blended pedagogies and best practices in course design
- Proficiency with LMS platforms (Canvas preferred) and common educational technologies; ability to advise on multimedia and assessment design
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple course development projects simultaneously within quality and budgetary constraints
- Strong analytical skills; ability to use learning analytics to inform instruction and reporting
- Experience evaluating and managing relationships with digital learning platform and educational technology vendors
- Understanding of academic integrity issues, including AI-aware assessment design, AI detection, and plagiarism prevention
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, presentation, and written comm
