This opportunity facilitates exposure to the delivery of nurse practitioner primary care in a clinic devoted to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). The intern will shadow a experienced nurse practitioner who will provide guidance and precept with the goal of providing a broad immersion into the primary care needs of patients with ID/DD. This will include training in the management of common disease states that present in primary care clinics, as well as those frequently seen among the ID/DD patient population.
The candidate for this position should have knowledge expected of a student nurse practitioner in the final year of their training, notable maturity, compassion, and patience. Previous experience with persons in the ID/DD community is a plus, but is not required.
This is an unpaid internship opportunity that is only open to current students. The internship may be able to satisfy course credit if approved by the student's institution of learning.
