While there are challenges ahead, we are dedicated to supporting our consumers and colleagues, to rethinking power generation, and to supporting an affordable and fair transition for all.</p><p></p><p><b>Role Purpose:</b></p><p></p><p>Responsible for the development and enhancement of quantitative models, methodologies, analysis techniques, and software tools to support all areas in Assets & Trading and BGE which interact with the wholesale gas and electricity markets.</p><p></p><p><b>About the Role: </b></p><ul><li>Develop and deliver models, methodologies or analysis across several functional areas from among:</li><li>Optimisation of generation dispatch and generation asset valuation.</li><li>Use of fundamental modelling capability (including Plexos) to support the development of a range of scenarios to assess the impact of climate targets on Ireland's power system, prices and BGE assets. Includes forecasting of Day Ahead, Intra-day, Balancing and system services markets and associated revenues.</li><li>Maintain familiarity with regulatory decisions and market publications which shape market design. Provide analysis on modifications and consultations dealing with the wholesale energy market (ex-ante markets, balancing market, system services market) capacity market, market charges and grid planning</li><li>Support for originating and structuring commercial contracts including renewable PPAs, building knowledge of key market structures affecting these assets.</li><li>Analysis of competitor behaviour and identification of commercial opportunities.</li><li>Support for tool building and business process improvement.</li><li>Forecasting/analysis of long and short term demand for power and gas</li><li>Forecasting of wind and solar generation.</li><li>Drive analyse of complex data using statistical techniques to facilitate modelling team activities.</li><li>Support the trading of BGE’s portfolio by ensuring that the short-term modelling process (data input/outputs, processing and performance) is streamlined and meets trading requirements.</li><li>Regular monitoring of forecast error and ongoing refinement of models.</li><li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market and regulatory developments.</li><li>Maintain adequate documentation for all models and methodologies and ensure adequate controls are in place</li><li>Perform any other duties that may arise.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>About you: </b></p><ul><li>A degree in a quantitative or scientific field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering or computer science.</li><li>Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, particularly price-formation and the operation of the Irish market.</li><li>Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of numerical and statistical techniques and experience of applying these techniques to practical real-world problems.</li><li>Proficiency in manipulation and analysing of large data sets (using Python, SQL, or similar programming language).</li><li>Capability with Plexos or any other market scheduling tool an advantage.</li><li>Previous experience in a related role highly desired</li></ul><p></p><p></p><p>In return, you’ll receive a competitive salary, generous annual leave allowance, and a host of other benefits, including volunteering days with our charity partner, Focus Ireland.
