WORKING TITLE: PERSONEL SERVICE SPECIALIST

This open competitive advertisement is for an OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Central Office in the Human Resource department.

 

The mission of the Human Resources Department in the Florida Department of Corrections is to attract, develop, and retain a highly skilled and diverse workforce. This includes promoting a positive and productive work environment, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, and fostering professional growth and employee well-being through innovative and responsive HR practices.

 

This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Support HR Operations: Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Office of Human Resources, focusing on Labor Relations and various administrative tasks.
  • Research and Prepare: Aid in the research and preparation of collective bargaining information, and draft correspondences for special projects and complex problem resolutions.
  • Policy Interpretation: Provide interpretations of policies, procedures, and rules, maintaining extensive knowledge of Florida Statutes, personnel rules, collective bargaining agreements, and department policies.
  • Data Management: Gather statistical data, compile reports, and maintain an extensive filing system of electronic records, ensuring proper archiving and destruction according to retention schedules.
  • Communication and Tech Savvy: Answer multi-line phones, process mail, and utilize various computer programs like SharePoint, People First, Excel, and Word to support HR functions efficiently.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Knowledge of the State of Florida’s People First system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access).
  • Ability to organize documents and route to the appropriate area for handling.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability and skills at multitasking.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Experience with strong attention to detail, and the ability to follow-up and meet deadlines

 

BENEFITS:

OPS employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in state group insurance plans. Standard PPO/HMO Options include:

    • Employee Only: $25 biweekly
    • Spouse Program: $15 biweekly
    • Employee & Family: $90 biweekly.
