Job Summary:

This position reports directly to Jenna Guthmiller, Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, and is responsible for performing the research summarized below. This position may supervise the work of graduate students and technicians.  

This position is for a PhD post-doctoral researcher with experience in molecular virology, cell biology, and innate and adaptive immunology. The Guthmiller Laboratory has projects focused on humoral immunity against influenza viruses, mucosal immune responses, vaccine development, and viral evolution.  The proposed training will be conducted at the state-of-the-art University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in beautiful Denver, Colorado.

The project and environment will provide an intensive training experience, numerous opportunities to interact and network with other researchers, and ultimately provide for transition into a successful independent investigator in academia or industry. All of the duties listed below are to achieve this goal in specific categories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, initiate, and independently conduct research projects related to influenza viruses, humoral and mucosal immunity, vaccine development, and viral evolution.

  • Perform laboratory experiments under BSL-2 conditions using molecular biology, virology, immunology, cell culture, recombinant DNA, and animal research techniques.

  • Develop research protocols, troubleshoot experimental challenges, interpret findings, and modify experimental approaches as needed.

  • Collect, analyze, document, and maintain research data, including detailed laboratory notebooks, databases, and records of experimental results.

  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, laboratory personnel, and other research partners to advance project objectives.

  • Communicate research findings through laboratory presentations, scientific manuscripts, conference presentations, and grant applications.

  • Train and provide guidance to graduate students, technicians, and other laboratory personnel while maintaining University research compliance requirements.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.
