Who We Are

HII Mission Technologies is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Manager, Design Engineering 2 to lead our team of design engineers. You'll be responsible for developing complex systems and products, ensuring all projects are completed to the highest standards, on time, and within budget.

What You Will Do

• Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
• Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
• Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
• Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
• Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
• Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

What You Must Have

• 6 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant progressive experience.
• Candidate must have 5+ years of experience in creating, reviewing, and issuing SRD (Ships Selected Record) drawings.
• Candidate must have extensive background with Ingalls Planning Yard Design Practices and the ability to manage design hours and meet production goals.
• Candidate must have a strong understanding of HM&E SID drawings. 
• Candidate must have an active Secret Clearance. 

Bonus Points For Having!

• Candidates who have 20 years of shipbuilding experience 
• Candidates who have at least 5 years’ experience as a group leader or 1 year experience as a supervisor

Physical Requirements

May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
