The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, seeks a Curatorial Research Assistant to help shape the Museum’s exhibition and collection program. The Curatorial Research Assistant will assist the curatorial staff in all areas of their responsibilities, especially with regard to the Museum’s important permanent collection. Additional research areas include temporary exhibitions, and associated publications. Further tasks involve administrative work in the context of curatorial functions such as acquisitions, exhibitions, artwork records and files, art collection committee meetings, loans, and other general curatorial inquiries.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Advances art historical research on the Museum’s collection including provenance research, exhibition histories and bibliographies.
Assists in developing and executing permanent collection installations.
Assists with the writing of scholarly and didactic materials for collection rotations, special exhibitions, the website and other publication venues.
Collaborate with the museum's Registrar's Office in cataloging the Museum's collections.
Prepares responses to collection and acquisition-related inquiries from donors, the public and scholars.
Provides research materials for the Museum’s new website.
Participates in public programming and museum education activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
