SEEKING:  Senior Electrical Specialist  

Navy Shipyard Experience

Norfolk, VA



  • Master Marine Electrician Specialist with a complete understanding of production processes and specialty trades functions and tools. 
  • Full comprehension of standard industry safety procedures, the General Specifications for Overhaul (GSO), Controlled Work Packages (CWP), Formal Work Packages (FWP).  
  • Cognizant of the need for strict adherence to all CWPs, FWPs and test documents.  
  • Provide basic hand tools such as screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, saws and hammers. 
  • Familiarity with Marine Electrical systems to include but not limited to electric motors, motor controllers, lighting, lighting and power distribution systems, internal communications and cableways. 
  • Master level comprehension of the use of meters and test equipment including but not limited to meggers, volt, ohm and amp meters. 
  • Computer skills including the ability to log on and navigate through a series of menus/icons on a major system controlled by a central computer and the basic use of Commercial, Off The-Shelf (COTS) software, electronic mail and internet. 
  • Able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight will be determined by the specific job but no less than 30 pounds. 
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. 
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.  May require wearing a respirator. 
  • As the ship is undergoing a mid-life refueling and complex overhaul, may be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 


Requirements
  •  Experience in a supervisory role over workforce involved in the physical maintenance and repair of electrical/electronic equipment and systems.
  • Technical instructor
  • 20 weeks of specialized formal courses in electrical/electronics maintenance and repair of naval and marine propulsion is highly desired.
  • Work independently with proper instruction.
  • OSHA 7615 (Shipyard Employment) 10-hour training course 
  • Respirator physical and fit test 
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training 
  • Nuclear Awareness; Non-nuclear work on nuclear vessels (NAVSEA Standard Item 009110)  
  • NAVSEA Cables/Cableways Standard Improvement Course 
  • Class II Intact Cable Cutting Certificate
Salary Description $35/hour
