The Firmware Engineering Intern will work with the Robotics New Product Development team to develop next generation products in the field of surgical robotics. Duties may include designing components or subsystems, implementing engineering testing of prototypes, conducting design reviews and creating project related documentation.
This position is expected to work for an EE/FW Technical Lead on one or more design teams. Working independently as they apply technical knowledge and experience to create and complete firmware design deliverables to meet the project requirements. The position will be based in Pittsburgh, PA.
What will you be doing?
Work closely with managers to complete specifically identified internship projects focusing on new product hardware and firmware as required.
Present project conclusion to senior leadership
Responsible for board-bring up and functional testing of PCBs
Create and maintain documentation to comply with requirements of SN design control specifications and relevant regulatory bodies such as requirements development, risk management, design verification etc.
Other duties as assigned.
What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Must be currently matriculated or within a year of matriculation in an undergraduate or masters program in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field of study.
Must be in excellent academic standing, with a 3.0 minimum GPA preferred
Experience:
Previous applicable internship, part-time or apprenticeship, or research project experience is preferred
Competences:
Strong competency in C programming
Understanding of object-oriented programming
Familiarity with standard test and analysis equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc. is preferred.
Demonstrated leadership experience with effective project management experience preferred
Strong communication skills including technical writing, listening and speaking; ability to influence others
High learning agility with the ability to analyze and synthesize data and then present it to senior leaders
Must be able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive project completion
Independent thinking and the ability to work within a team is required
Ability to assess technical issues and develop solutions applying an analytical approach to problem solving
Requires the ability to manage tight deadlines, multiple tasks, assignment changes, periodic heavy workload, rapidly changing technology, and dynamic business growth; time management and organization skills are a must
