Description
As EuroQCI E2E Security Engineer, you will report to the EuroQCI/SAGA Implementation Manager in the Optical and Quantum Programme Office in the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department, Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications.
EuroQCI/SAGA is part of an EU initiative to provide European-wide quantum communications services. ESA is the design authority of EuroQCI, a Commission-led initiative which will consist of a terrestrial segment relying on fibre communications networks linking strategic sites at national and cross-border level, and a space segment based on satellites. It will be an integral part of IRIS², the new EU space-based secure communication system.
You will be the technical coordinator, in close cooperation with the ESA Security Office (ESO) and CSC SAGA security engineering, for the security engineering baseline, design, implementation and qualification and test in EuroQCI. You will be fully responsible of the end-to-end security engineering and system integration development of EuroQCI in full synergy with ESO as security risk management and assurance responsible. You will be managing the delivery of these security requirements and associated tasks through all phases of the acquisition lifecycle. You will also be required to develop and manage the security case at project level, protecting assets through-life, ensuring that capability remains operational.
Duties
Your main tasks and responsibilities will cover:
• being responsible for the EuroQCI security baseline documentation;
• being responsible for EuroQCI security end-to-end system architecture, security operations, key management and cryptography;
• coordinating the EuroQCI security risk assessment with ESA Security Office;
• being responsible for security engineering for hardware elements (TEMPEST, KMS hardware, KMFs, HSMs, RNGs and data processing) for space and ground segments;
• being responsible for software engineering for software related to key generation and management as well as other security-critical elements;
• acting as the focal point for designing, supporting and maintaining EuroQCI cyber security processes and procedures;
• providing the focus for building and maintaining asset maintenance cyber security policy, which includes support within EuroQCI remote systems, as well as end user systems and networks;
• acting as a technical interface with the client (Member States and Commission) and industrial developers;
• being responsible for design authority oversight of system upgrades, design changes and maintenance with respect to security;
• building and maintaining security reference systems for the support system upgrades and patches;
• collaborating with other teams to improve system security and monitoring;
• acting as the technical responsible within the team on EuroQCI cyber and security, applying standard security techniques and architectures to mitigate security risks;
• leading the development of security artefacts, including the EuroQCI security management plan, security cases and security case reports;
• working in close cooperation with the SAGA Security Engineer and the ESA Security Office.
