About the Department

The Rebay Lab uses Drosophila as a genetically tractable model system to study how cell fates are specified and organized into functional tissues and organs. Our experimental approach is multidisciplinary, and incorporates molecular genetics, genomics, quantitative imaging, biochemistry and mathematical modeling. Current projects are focused on transcriptional networks and cellular networks that regulate cell fate transitions and on the signaling mechanisms and tissue-level biomechanical properties that drive morphogenesis. Because the molecular networks we study are conserved all the way to humans, our work has direct relevance to human development and disease.

Job Summary

The Research Professional Specialist will conduct cell biological, molecular genetic and genomic experiments with a high degree of independence in a basic research laboratory. The primary focus this position is the design and generation of new genetic alleles for several Drosophila genes using CRISPR/Cas approaches and then using these genetic tools to address fundamental questions in development and evolution. As a Research Professional Specialist, you will also be a resource for other colleagues and participate and present in weekly lab meetings.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.

• Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.

• Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.

• Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

• Advanced knowledge and skills in molecular biology and genetics, especially CRISPR/Cas9 mediated mutagenesis of genomic sequence.

• Advanced proficiency in Drosophila genetics and molecular biology.

Licenses and Certifications:

• A publication record that demonstrates a strong track record of research contributions in the broad areas of development, evolution and molecular genetics.

​Preferred Competencies

• Ability to read papers critically, keep abreast of technical development in the field, and apply ideas from scientific literature to the design of new experiments.

• Ability to design, implement, troubleshoot and interpret experiments with highest level of independence. 

Working Conditions

• Lab environment.

• Weekend/Evening hours: experiments may require working outside of normal business hours.
