This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The assistant swim team coach oversees the activities, practices, and competitions of the swim team along with the direction from the Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator. Provides leadership, instruction and motivation of participants in a competitive swimming environment. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere promoting member safety and engagement, youth development and healthy living in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Coach and supervise swimmers at all assigned home swim meets and a minimum of one (1) away USA Swimming meet every two months, providing instruction, performance evaluation, athlete support, and ensuring participant safety and compliance with YMCA and USA Swimming standards. 
  2. Coach a minimum of three (3) swim team practices per week, including evening and/or early morning practices as scheduled. 
  3. Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents/guardians, and YMCA staff regarding practices, competitions, athlete progress, and program expectations. 
  4. Design and execute training plans that cater to the needs of swimmers of all levels, from beginners to YMCA Nationals/STX Sectionals athletes. 
  5. Ensure all swimming equipment and facilities are properly maintained and in good working conditions. 
  6. Track and assess the progress of swimmers, providing feedback and adjustments to training programs as needed. 
  7. Tracks and maintains the quality of the swim team program and provides the opportunity to improve their swimming skills and to achieve success at each level of ability. 
  8. Keeps the pool clear of equipment and putting equipment in proper storage place. 
  9. Communicate regularly with the Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator regarding program operations, swimmer performance, safety concerns, incidents, and all required reports to support effective program management and compliance. 
  10. Participate in required staff meetings and training to maintain current knowledge of YMCA policies, procedures, safety protocols, and coaching standards necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. 
  11. Ensure the YMCA swim team adheres to all YMCA approved local, state, and national swim team guidelines and policies. 
  12. Participates in our Annual YMCA fundraising campaigns. Along with the Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator, assists in hosting at least one annual swim team fundraising event. 
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  1. Associate degree in related field is preferred. High School Diploma of GED required.  
  2. Three to five years of swim coaching experience preferred.
