Genome Editing Senior Scientist (Crop Science Vegetables R&D) 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

As the Genome Editing Senior Scientist within our global team, we have a crucial role in executing the genome editing strategy in Vegetables. This position will oversee various projects from inception to completion, bringing your experience in project management as well as your scientific expertise. A deep understanding of our project portfolio will help you to connect our work in the Vegetable R&D organization with the greater crop science genome editing community at Bayer. Technical expertise will be invaluable in driving success within projects. A deep understanding of genomics will allow additional contributions to native trait projects. Working in diverse and empowered teams will directly contribute to our mission of Health for All and Hunger for None.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Genome Editing Senior Scientist (Crop Science Vegetables R&D), are: 

 

  • Manages vegetable genome editing and new genomic technologies project portfolio;
  • Leads and scopes genome editing projects;
  • Represents vegetables in the broader genome editing effort;
  • Contributes through bioinformatics to defining genome editing targets;
  • Actively contributes to Native Trait Discovery projects;
  • Identifies and assesses innovations pertinent to the technology and portfolio;
  • Actively mentors peers/colleagues in areas of expertise.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. OR Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree;
  • Educational preparation or applied experience in life sciences;
  • Excellent track record in cross-functional project management;
  • Specialized knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, or plant physiology;
  • Ability to ensure accountability for cross-functional groups;
  • Agile communicator.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Five or more years of relevant experience (to include educational or industrial experience post-undergraduate);
  • Experience with genome editing;
  • Strong background in functional genomics and bioinformatics;
  • Experience in portfolio management;
  • Strong network in scientific community.

 

 

Position will be located in either Woodland, CA or Chesterfield, Missouri (St. Louis area).

Domestic relocation may be available for this role.

Visa Sponsorship may be available for this role.

Position may include opportunity to work up to 20% remote. 

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $110,000 to $166,000.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
