General Maintenance Worker

SUMMARY

Bering Global Solutions, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified General Maintenance Worker for the BOS contract in Chesapeake, VA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work..
• replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, etc.
• All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation
• Should own the basic tools needed to perform maintenance
• High school education or equivalent 
• Must be able to pass drug screening
• 3-5 years of experience in maintenance and repairs.

• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, environment
• Ability to interface with all levels of management
• Excellent time management, scheduling, and organizational skills
• Ability to work well independently or in a team setting

• Have good knowledge of electricity, carpentry and plumbing among other technical skills
• Have good knowledge of troubleshooting techniques to determine exact problems and tackle them accordingly
• Excellent ability to communicate system problems to both co-workers and management for proper understanding
• Exhibit good mechanical skills to handle equipment to avoid causing injuries to self and others on ground

Preferred

• Facility maintenance experience with the DoD preferred

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS

• This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Job is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to many different types of weather.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
