Job Description:

The Senior Network Architect, Architect III provides network architecture and technology guidance to network operations, build, and engineering project delivery teams across the TD network team. This role enables our Retail, Campus, and Datacenter LAN, WAN, MAN teams supporting network technologies across the US, Canada, and international locations across TD's businesses.

This highly visible network role is responsible for the design and engineering components of driving new network technology adoption across the firm with a focus towards network deployment automation, modernization of routing implementation and stability design components, as well as innovating the network organization forward.

As the network design owner, this role has key involvement in supporting and partnering with other Infrastructure & Engineering teams to align network services consumed by application and platform owners.

Network architecture role supporting Cisco, Aruba, and Arista routing and switching. Domain lead on routing and switching technologies and their implementation.

Duties Include::

  • Architect and design scalable network solutions across Retail, Campus, and Datacenter domains
  • High degree of experience in supporting large scale, multi-vendor networks (Cisco, Arista, Aruba), preferred at financial services institutions
  • Implementation experience relative to datacenter fabric technologies for VXLAN spine/leaf networks and interoperability across manufacturers. Cisco ACI experience, Arista VXLAN ideal.
  • Expert ability in core routing protocols – BGP, OSPF, VRF
  • Design intent around modern datacenter network protocols such as VXLAN overlay frameworks, EVPN-BGP configuration, and related troubleshooting
  • Incorporates network automation into build and testing scenarios, encompassing technologies such as Ansible, Python
  • Builds and maintains network reference architecture diagraming and mapping to ensure up to date network plans and supportability, as well as develops supporting technical documentation and design guides.  
  • Familiarity with utilizing network tooling platforms such as Netbrain, Forward Networks, amongst others in observability of the network operating environment to inform design decisioning
  • Aids in network capacity planning regimes with operations and engineering to support business consumption and appropriate levels of network health
  • Assists with defining network standards for interoperability between diverse vendor platforms, ensuring resiliency, security, and performance
  • Collaborates with security, cloud, and other Infrastructure & Engineering teams to align network architecture with infrastructure strategy across the firm.
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting and escalation engagement for L4+ support
  • Primary network subject matter expert on TD's network technologies with specialized knowledge related to architecture of multiple TD applications and/or lines of business
  • Foresees architectural issues / gaps and identifies emerging industry trends (i.e. future-focused)

Depth & Scope:

  • Participates in the selection, placement, and orientation of new staff members; manages the performance, training requirements, and development of staff
  • Motivates staff to foster continued process and quality improvements
  • Deals effectively with employee relation issues, suggestions, and discipline
  • Performs technical project management including creating project plans, managing IT resources, tracking and delegating tasks
  • Manages external staffing and service providers as needed including contract negotiations
  • Works closely with IT managers and staff to complete projects
  • Other duties as assigned
