National Grid is hiring a Manager, Distribution Line Worker for our NE Electric OH Operations department in Hopedale, Massachusetts. This is an onsite position.

Job Purpose

To support the department director and to provide leadership and clear direction for a team, ensuring the delivery and documentation of work within the agreed timelines, cost schedules, quality and safety standards while operating to a risk profile that fully supports operating to the highest Health and Safety standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for the assigned distribution line construction team.
  • Ensure safe and reliable construction and maintenance of the distribution systems consistent with company goals, objectives, and policies, in full compliance with existing and relevant emerging government codes and regulations.
  • Work closely with management and provide team leadership to ensure that organizational goals are communicated to the team and that group direction is consistent with corporate strategy, direction, and growth objectives.
  • Ensure successful performance of assigned distribution line team; challenge, motivate and develop subordinates; and reinforce a “continuous improvement” work environment within a performance-based culture.
  • Work closely with management to implement an outsourcing strategy to achieve competitive contract pricing while maintaining the highest quality work standards and construction practices.
  • Work closely with management to develop operating budgets and resource allocations to ensure timely and cost-effective achievement of all assigned work.
  • Work with process owners, management, and peer Managers to identify and implement business process improvement and best practices in a consistent manner; and remain abreast of changing technologies and industry best practice

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Must have strong knowledge of union contracts and ability to build and develop strong union relationships. 
  • Negotiations, presentation, construction management, communication
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety.    
  • Demonstrates openness to change.
  • Exceptional leadership and customer service skills.  Must be self-motivated and possess sound decision-making ability.
  • Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, questioning the value of every activity and creating better solutions.
  • Demonstrated they are flexible and works well in team environment. Ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of employees throughout the company. 
  • Must possess strong team building skills, with the ability to lead and motivate employees, and a willingness to champion organizational change.
  • Ability to work off-hours and on-call and travel for system emergencies.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related area or 5+ years of electric utility supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience, or equivalent work program or project management experience
  • An advanced degree/credits is preferred
  • A high level of analytical, coaching and intervention skills and the ability to use creative problem-solving techniques in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

Salary:  $133,000 - $160,000 a year
