Advanced Houston Specialty Hospital is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to work at our newly renovated facility at 205 Hollow Tree Lane, Spring, TX.

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Technician performs routine and specialized laboratory tests to support the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients within a correctional healthcare setting. This role ensures the timely, safe, and accurate collection, labeling, processing, and reporting of lab specimens in compliance with established standards, safety protocols, and applicable regulations.

Essential Functions:

  1. Collect, label, and process blood, urine, and other specimens from incarcerated patients using proper techniques.
  2. Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing in accordance with CLIA regulations.
  3. Ensure the proper storage, transport, and handling of specimens.
  4. Maintain and calibrate lab equipment; perform quality control checks and report any malfunctions.
  5. Document and report test results accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) or manual systems.
  6. Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to prioritize and process lab orders.
  7. Prepare specimens for transport to outside laboratories when necessary.
  8. Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies and ensure work area cleanliness.
  9. Adhere to infection control and safety protocols in accordance with OSHA and facility policy.
  10. Follow all applicable facility rules and regulations while maintaining professional boundaries.
  11. Participate in audits, inspections, and training as required.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her scope of work as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 1 year of experience required in a clinical or hospital lab environment. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements to include an annual background check.
