Work Schedule: Mostly day hours, coverage needed outside of normal working hours occasionally

Responsible for daily operations, staff, performance improvement, compliance with accreditation standards, budget and quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

1. Ensures the implementation of departmental policies and procedures that address how nursing care needs of the patient population are assessed, met and evaluated.

  • Creates an environment to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.

2. Utilizes human, material, fiscal resources of assigned unit(s) within budgetary guidelines or within acceptable budget variances.

  • Assists in preparing a realistic budget within established guidelines.

  • Takes corrective action when budget variances are identified.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of cost saving process changes or alternative products or procedures.

  • Implements a budget based master scheduling and staffing plan for assigned care unit(s).

  • Adjusts staffing on an as needed basis to meet patient care needs and budget target.

3. Leading – Motivating and influencing, managing vision and purpose.

  • Develops enthusiasm for day-to-day tasks.

  • Sets an example with personal behavior/commitment to high standards.

  • Encourages calculated risks to achieve important objectives.

  • Recognizes special contributions/rewards excellence.

  • Maintains good working relationships outside own area of responsibility.

  • Identifies candidates for succession planning and prepares candidates for promotional opportunities.

  • Develops detailed project/task plans. Determines priorities/allocation and utilization of resources.

  • Analyzes root causes of problems.

  • Identifies potential problems.

  • Considers relevant issues before action, including effect on all parts of the organization.

  • Proposes new/innovative approaches and seizes opportunities to improve unit performance.

6. Communication – Communicate clearly, active listening.

  • Clearly articulates and supports hospital and unit policies.

  • Provides clear performance expectations.

  • Follows through on ideas/concerns in a timely manner.

  • Consults with supervisor and other affected parties before making major changes.

  • Creates a comfortable environment for giving and receiving constructive feedback.

7. For Emergency Services only: Perform Trauma Program Manager responsibilities.

  • Participate in the development and planning of goals and objectives related to trauma care.

  • Chair the Emergency/Trauma Committee

  •  Coordinate with the trauma medical director, hospital administration and clinicians to assess the need for policies, procedures and protocols relating to the care of trauma patients.

  •  Represent the Trauma Program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management.

  • Serves as a liaison to administration, representing the Trauma Program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster a fiscally sound Trauma Program.
