Job Summary

Conduct wren research in field and lab settings. This includes collection, analysis, and entry of data related to the assigned project. Additional duties include mist netting, color band reading, blood sampling, and training of new personnel.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$23.00 per hour

Required Qualifications

1. Masters degree in Biology
2. Previous experience in wren research
3. Interest in biological research and enthusiasm in ornithology
4. Reliable and accurate worker with ability to work long mornings outside in rugged forest conditions
5. Prior experience in applicable ornithological field work is required, and familiarity with our field system

Work Hours

Start time is typically at 6:00 am. End time is variable, but typically before noon. Up to 28 hours per week maximum.

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Remain at a workstation for extended periods
2. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.

Special Instructions for Applicants

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.

Applicable part-time work experience will be considered toward qualifying for this position; however, it will be converted to a full-time equivalency to determine combined length of experience.
