Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Senior Vice President-Property Accounting will be responsible for leading the National Property Accounting Department and overseeing all activities of the department.  The primary objective will be to provide strategic financial leadership, maintain internal controls, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations within the commercial real estate industry. This position will office on-site in our downtown Dallas corporate HQ location. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial/Business Management
    • Develop and implement financial strategies, policies and procedures for the property accounting department.
    • Manage the department’s financial resources, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
    • Monitor and analyze department performance, identify areas of improvement, and provide recommendations for enhancing profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Accounting Operations
    • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations.
    • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
    • Monitor and ensure timely completion of annual property budgeting process.
    • Monitor and ensure timely completion of annual CAM reconciliation process.
    • Establish and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard company & client assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Stay updated with changes in accounting regulations & standards and assess their impact on the departments operations.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
    • Foster a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, teamwork, and professional development.
    • Empower all levels of property accounting leaders to monitor team members' work performance and work ethic, with goals of ensuring a fair division of workload and improving overall department efficiency. 
    • Ensure effective communication and coordination with other departments, such as property management, corporate accounting, and legal, to support overall organizational goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with senior management, executives, and other stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.
    • Participate in key property management & property accounting RFP’s.
    • Assist with key client relationship building.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.  A Master’s degree or CPA qualification is preferred. 
    • Proven experience in accounting and finance roles, with a focus on commercial real estate accounting.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance requirements in the commercial real estate industry.
    • Experience leading & managing large accounting teams and leading complex financial projects.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide strategic recommendations.
    • Proficient in using accounting software, Yardi strongly preferred.
    • Strong leadership abilities, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
