Overview
Element is currently hiring for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our growing team in Eagan, MN. The Senior Laboratory Technician supports laboratory functionality by preparing/sterilizing media, reagents, and supplies, maintaining chemical/laboratory supply stocks used in testing, and washes glassware and lab equipment for reuse. Schedules, assigns tasks and trains new employees.
Responsibilities
- Prepares media and reagents per the media schedule or by management request in a timely manner.
- Prepares and stocks laboratory materials including but not limited to: glass, ceramic, porcelain and stainless steel carriers, Petri dishes, forceps, general laboratory supplies, and glassware, per the media schedule or by management request in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the timely decontamination, washing, cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware and supplies.
- Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity.
- Monitors and maintains stock supplies for testing including but not limited to: dry chemicals, liquid chemicals, prepared media, prepared reagents and prepared solutions. Sets up laboratory testing supplies.
- Performs quality control procedures on media and reagents prepared in the media production laboratory using aseptic technique.
- Monitors and removes expired raw materials and prepared supplies on a timely basis.
- Assists with the monitoring, cleaning and decontaminating of laboratory equipment on a routine basis.
- Responsible for documentation and maintenance of training records.
- Assists in the implementation of quality control and quality assurance methods and practices.
- Generates, reviews, and keeps current on new Standard Operating Procedures, Technical Data Sheets and forms.
- Responds to internal and external e-mail and requests as needed.
- May log in projects and test substances into the Master Schedule according to established procedures in a timely manner and create Test Substance Accountability Records for test substances.
Skills / Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent. Up to one-year applicable experience in a technical or laboratory requirement preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of the principles of media production, sterilization, quality control and aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment apparatus and terminology.
- Ability to adapt standard laboratory production & sterilization techniques to meet the demands of specific problems.
- Ability to make basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to multi-task and develop strong documentation skills.
- Work as an effective and proactive team-player; understands the importance of supporting the organization, customers and other Element Eagan employees.
- Ability to maintain records and correspondence.
- Able to give full attention to what other people say, take time to understand the points being made, and ask questions as appropriate.
- Able to use critical thinking, logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
