Job Summary:

Manages assets of a unit, including develop, implement and monitor an annual work program, assure scheduled activities can be accomplished within the annual budget, compose and implement a strategic plan, supervise work crews and admin staff, ensure asset and material production is sufficient to meet needs and goals of the agency, manager unit's fleet of vehicles, equipment and tools. Ensure that crews are properly trained in Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and ADOT standards and procedures concerning signing and marking. 

Job Duties:

Directs work for themselves, crew and vendors (when needed) to maintain, install and/or fabricate roadway signs, sign structures and their components, remove and install thermoplastic, tape and pain highway markings. Prepare execute and adjust annual work program. Monitors work plan to ensure quality, timeliness and proper performance of operations activities.

Utilize leadership skills and technical expertise to supervise scheduled and unscheduled work activities while ensuring the safety of the work crews and the public. Monitors the budget of the unit to ensure that expenditures are within guidelines for work accomplishments and in compliance with procurement policies.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Departmental mission and goal.
  • Federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, methods, practices, techniques, tools and equipment, used in construction and maintenance of highway signs and pavement markings.
  • Safety practices and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
  • Managerial practices and supervisory techniques.
  • State and department regulations regarding procurement policies.
  • Contract specification and administration.
  • Road and roadside materials as they relate to signing and pavement marking: MUTCD.
  • Departmental traffic control requirements.
  • Environmental regulations governing impacts to cultural and biological resources and waters in the US.

  • Prepare clear and concise records, reports and other written materials.
  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with external and internal customers.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Experience equivalent to three years as a Highway Ops Tech 4 (HOT 4).
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certified.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
