Job Summary:Position Summary:
The Tax Fraud Examiner 4 performs investigative and research responsibilities related to allegations of violations of State of Arizona tax laws and tax fraud. This role reviews compliance audits of various tax types in coordination with internal and external investigators, investigative subjects, business professionals, and attorneys, by performing interviews, issuing subpoenas, participating in the execution of financial search warrants, and preparing evidence and financial records for legal case files. Due to the nature of this work, the incumbent of this position must be able to meet all requirements to access Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) data, may be required to testify before a grand jury in the court of law, and conduct field visits which may involve overnight travel.
Supervision:
This position does not have direct reports.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:Audit Reviews and Investigations
-Conducts complex criminal tax investigations and audit reviews involving the accurate calculation and application of tax laws, rules and regulations, policies, and procedures of the department which periodically involves in-state travel in a consistent manner to all taxpayers:
-Accurate and timely examination and investigation of audits based on information obtained through CJIS data, interviews, subpoenas, financial records, and any other applicable documentation
-Researches tax returns to determine validity, and if found to be fraudulent takes appropriate corrective action
-Elicits clarifying information, accepts evidence, evaluates testimony in a written decision, and prepares legal case files for prosecution
-Fully documents audits to support the department's position and maintain the audit file in an orderly manner
-Prepares and completes investigative reports for both the agency and the Attorney General’s Office
-Conducts field visits/audits for criminal tax fraud investigative purposes.
Agency Representation
-Attends and represent the department at informal and formal hearings, including requests to testify before a grand jury in the court of law
-Prepares testimony for trials, as assigned
-Makes court appearances and provides testimonies related to audit findings
Agency/Department Compliance & Continuous Improvement
-Remains current on all laws, regulations, policies, and best practices related to taxation through regular engagement in activities such as: self-directed research, conferring with other practitioners and technical experts; subscriptions to regulatory/legal/industry newsletters and briefs; membership industry associations and attendance at meetings/events; and or participation in training and others continuing education opportunities.
-Actively contributes to team and individual effectiveness through the following: -
-Attends staff meetings and huddles of work unit or district; and may cascade and track information as indicated
