The University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science’s Link Lab seeks a Project Associate to join its growing team. The Project Associate will advance the Link Lab’s mission in cyber-physical systems research and education and will assist the Link Lab Director in grant writing to support the Lab’s mission.
This position requires active engagement and leadership in connecting with and identifying shared priorities for entities across the University and partner institutions. The position requires strong project coordination skills, written and oral communication skills, and assisting the Director in strategic planning. The position will oversee a project on smart infrastructure coordinating the project and ensuring it meets its stated project objectives.
This position reports directly to the Director of the Link Lab and works in close collaboration with members of the Link Lab staff and faculty, as well as other units across UVA.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the smart infrastructure project working with faculty, staff, and students to meet the objectives of the project.
- Coordinates the completion of a center-scale grant proposal to an external funding agency to continue and grow work on the smart infrastructure project.
- Manages the project budget and keeps the director informed of all necessary expenditures
- Manages procurement needs such as payment of invoices, contract approval, and vendor registration
- Responsible for organizing logistics for interview, hiring, and onboarding processes for new students and staff on the project
- Assists in proposal writing, reviewing, and coordination of internal and external stakeholders participating in the proposal
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, with close attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in working with computers and related hardware/software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Acrobat Pro, etc.
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to exercise good judgment.
- Demonstrated success in administrative, project management, or marketing profession.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science.
- Project management and administrative experience.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience with project management software.
This position will be in Charlottesville and a hybrid work schedule is possible with a preference for working at least half time in person.
