Elementary Substitute Teacher

Job Title: Substitute Teacher – Elementary School
Reports To: Principal or Assistant Principal
Location: Southern Avenue Charter School
Position Type: On-call / As-needed

Job Summary:

We are seeking a responsible, flexible, and engaging Substitute Teacher to provide classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher. The ideal candidate will be able to follow lesson plans, maintain a positive learning environment, and support students' academic and behavioral needs across grade levels K–5.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher.
• Manage classroom behavior and create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
• Deliver instruction in core subjects such as reading, math, science, and social studies.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students’ diverse learning needs.
• Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and during transitions.
• Report any incidents, student concerns, or deviations from the lesson plan to school administration.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with all school policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• Experience working with children or in a school setting is a plus.
• Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and grade levels.

Work Conditions:

• On-call position; daily assignments may vary.
• May be called for short-notice assignments.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
