Position Summary

CVS Health is looking for a Security Firewall Engineer whose responsibilities will include designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining CVS’ network security systems. The role focuses on ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of IT systems and data by configuring and managing firewall solutions to prevent unauthorized access and mitigate cyber threats. In this role the Security Firewall Engineer will design, configure, and deploy firewall solutions to support enterprise security policies. The candidate will also develop and maintain access control lists (ACLs), rule sets, and security policies based on organizational needs. The candidate will perform regular updates and patches to firewalls to maintain a top security posture, plan, and implement network segmentation to isolate critical assets and reduce attack surfaces.

The Security Firewall Engineer will integrate firewalls with other security tools (e.g., IDS/IPS, VPNs, SIEM systems) and monitor firewall logs and alerts to identify suspicious activities and security threats. The candidate will investigate and resolve firewall-related incidents and provide root cause analysis and support incident response teams by isolating affected systems and implementing containment measures. The Security Firewall Engineer will ensure firewall configurations comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies (e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA, NIST) and document firewall configurations, rule changes, and security incidents for audit purposes.

The Security Firewall Engineer will troubleshoot and resolve connectivity and performance issues related to firewall systems and will work closely with IT teams, application developers, and third-party vendors to ensure security requirements are met. The candidate will contribute to strategic planning for network security improvements while ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI DSS.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ experience in a network security engineering role
  • 7+ years’ experience designing, deploying and administering intrusion prevention systems, network access control systems, network detection & response systems and Palo Alto firewalls
  • 5+ years’ hands-on experience with one or more of the following solutions: Web application firewalls such as, Akamai, Imperva, Cloudflare or Radware,
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience with one or more of the following Prevention Systems such as: Cisco Firepower, Fortinet, or Palo Alto,
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience with one or more of the following Network Detection & Response (NDR) systems: Arista Awake NDR, Cisco Stealth Watch, FortiNDR, or Corelight 
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience with one or more of the following Network access control (NAC) systems: Forescout, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) or Fortinet FortiNAC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Ansible, Bash)
  • Expert understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices
  • Vision to automate repetitive tasks
  • Keen attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of security
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, CEH, CCNA, CompTIA Security+, SANS GIAC, GPEN)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (High School Diploma and 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$130,295.00 - $260,590.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s
