Job Description

Registered Nurse- First Assistants are responsible for assisting in patient care and preparation of surgical patients by performing scrub, circulating duties. Provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled cases. Assists in preparation, transportation, and supervision of patients. Maintains education in surgical operating room and related aspects of patient care. Performs patient care and service through a multidisciplinary team approach.

Responsibilities

Applies principles of disinfection and sterilization. Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques., Applies principles of disinfection and sterilization. Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques., Assessment- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or the situation. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data., Assists in the positioning, skin preparation, and draping of the patient., Assists with clean up and case turnover., Assumes accountability for verification of operative procedure being performed., Coordination of Care- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients., Demonstrates knowledge of patient identification., Diagnosis - Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues., Evaluation- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines., Handles, identifies, and delivers all specimens, cultures, implantable devices, and homografts., Implementation - Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards., Knowledge - In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities., Operates and maintains equipment according to recommended manufacturers instructions and policies and procedures., Operates flash sterilizer and Steris sterilizer., Outcomes Identification - Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation., Participates in the evaluation of the patient care delivery system., Performs circulating and scrub duties as assigned to maintain clinical skills. Circulates and scrubs all operative procedures performed., Performs first assisting duties according to standards of practice as assigned. Participates in the development and maintenance of competencies necessary to function in the first assistant role., Planning - Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes., Provides hemostasis, wound exposure, handles and cuts tissue appropriately to reduce the potential for injury, sutures tissues, administers local anesthetics, and applies dressings to the wound under the direction of the surgeon., Relationships - Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions., Seeks assistance when situation is beyond the RN’s knowledge and experience., Takes call as scheduled., Teaching - Employs teaching strategies to promote health and a safe environment. {+ 2 more}

Requirements

ADN (Required)ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support W/I 90 Days - Sarah Bush Lincoln, BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire. - Sarah Bush Lincoln, CRNFA - Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant - Competency & Credentialing Institute, RN-Registered Nurse - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
