The Department of Marine Resources, Marine Patrol, is recruiting to fill a Full Time Marine Mechanic Specialist in Rockland, ME.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is structure and craft work involving the servicing and mechanical repair of engines and auxiliary equipment ensuring operational readiness of a diverse fleet of vessels. Responsibilities include maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding a variety of inboard/outboard engines and hulls; fabricating and/or welding marine structures; maintaining the fleet storage facility and auxiliary equipment; and performing vessel safety inspections. The work entails troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electrical malfunctions as well as related hardware and software malfunctions. Work is performed independently under limited supervision.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

·         Knowledge of marine engine and systems repair

·         Knowledge of inboard/outboard (gasoline and diesel) repair and maintenance

·         Knowledge of fiberglass, wood, and plastics fabrication (including epoxies, paint, and gelcoat)

·         Knowledge of electronic installations and repairs and computer diagnostic equipment for various marine engine and system applications

·         Knowledge of electrical and marine electronic systems (including radar, GPS, depth sounders, radios, etc.)

·         Knowledge of Coast Guard safety regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, and American Boat and Yacht Council wiring standards

·         Ability to develop and implement preventative maintenance plans for all fleet vessels and trailers

·         Ability to test, replace, repair/install electrical accessories in boats, including bilge pumps, charging systems, steering systems, electronics, radios, and other related equipment

·         Ability to handle multiple work orders and utilize computer systems to document work that has been performed

·         Ability to use power and hand tools

·         Ability to safely operate any fleet vessel to diagnose issues

       ·         Ability to order supplies, parts, and tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years education and/or experience providing a demonstrated ability to perform marine mechanic work.  

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: None
