Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience

Job Description

Developer Experience is a growing internal team that serves developers working with Square hardware devices. We develop internal software, firmware tools, test software infrastructure, and developer infrastructure to serve our internal customer teams. Some of our customer teams are the Android OS, embedded software, factory, and testrack teams.

As a Senior Software Engineer on Developer Experience, you will split your time between our test infrastructure and managed developer environments workstreams. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to our team and partners.

You will: 

• Build and maintain software test platforms for hardware-in-the-loop testing
• Develop our local and cloud developer environments
• Work with other DX engineers on our firmware and software tools
• Give technical direction to our projects
• Mentor other engineers on the team

Qualifications

You have: 

• 8+ years of software development experience
• Experience leading projects that increase developer velocity
• Experience with building and shipping internal tools and products and working directly with internal customers to improve their development experience
• Experience influencing other senior leads to make progress on projects that aren't purely performed by our team
• Expertise in Python development, SDLC, and best practices

Even better if you have experience with the following:

• Terraform, Salt, Docker, Vagrant, and Packer
• AWS
• Embedded firmware development
• AOSP development
• Testing and tooling
• Pytest plugin development
• Software development experience ranging from web applications, command line tooling, data visualization, automated tests, and test frameworks

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
