General Summary
- The Retail Pharmacy Technician will maintain both Legend and OTC (Over the Counter) inventory, put medication orders away, process prescriptions, answer phone, run cash register and assist customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responds to customers request for medication or information. Follows through to meet customer’s needs.
- Participates and /or contributes to Pharmacy and hospital improvement activities.
- Stocks vials, caps and bags; cleaning/clearing counter space throughout the day, checking drop box/website for prescription refill requests.
- Displays a working knowledge of computer operation to include inputting of prescriptions, adding new patients, running refills and providing price checks.
- Maintains over the counter (OTC) shelves. Ordering, stickering, restocking all the over the counter meds and special order items.
- Obtains medication from shelf, count, place in vial, label, and perform National Drug Code (NDC#) check.
- Verifies the correct employee price; Calling for refill authorizations/receiving authorizations and new prescriptions from Physician offices.
- Performs simple pharmacy calculations and efficient use of reference material.
- Answers telephone consistently in a courteous manner within three rings. Assists Customers with over the counter (OTC) purchases.
- Receives prescriptions from customers and verifying customer prescription information for accuracy and completeness.
- Puts away wholesale medication/over the counter (OTC) by placing stickers on items and placement in proper shelf space. Performs monthly inspections for outdated items
- Answers telephone consistently in a courteous manner within three rings. Assists Customers with over the counter (OTC) purchases.
- Receives prescriptions from customers and verifying customer prescription information for accuracy and completeness.
- Performs monthly inspections for outdated items.
- Completes all annual mandatory education required by facility.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Experience
- One year of pharmacy experience preferred but not required.
Certification/License
- Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred and must be registered or have applied for Pharmacy registration after interview prior to start date.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration required completing duties. Standing and walking up stairs 50% of shift is required. Light lifting (25lbs) required.
Working Conditions
- Most of workday spent in Pharmacy, with hourly rounds to Patient Care units. Considerable printer and telephone noise.
