Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Senior Physician - Psychiatrist Supv-SES. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- This is a Select Exempt Service position practicing in a forensic mental health treatment center to evaluate men with mental disorders, manage their course of treatment, and help prepare them to confront their legal situation as described in Chapter 916, F.S. Position serves as the psychiatrist of record for a specific caseload of residents, the number determined by the need for an equitable distribution of the Center’s total caseload among all the psychiatrists. Duties include but are not limited to:
- This is professional work supervising and directing employees; including but not limited to communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to effectively recommend actions such as: hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, promote, discharge, assign, and reward or discipline direct reports. Evaluates employees against established standards and takes appropriate actions when necessary (i.e. recognition, reward, corrective action, etc.).
- Participation in the Multidisciplinary Treatment Team for each resident, working collaboratively to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Completion of a psychiatric evaluation on every resident being admitted, initiating admission orders and developing a preliminary treatment plan.
