Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a well-organized candidate to serve as the Executive Secretary I in the Policy and Directives Unit.  The ideal candidate will be well versed in administrative secretary duties including, but not limited to gathering and processing information, monitoring project completion, and performing receptionist duties.  The ideal candidate will also be task-oriented and self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.  We are seeking an upbeat candidate to become an integral part of a team and contribute to a harmonious work environment.  We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as administrative secretary.
  • Gathers background data from designated sources to assist manager in preparing responses.
  • Keyboards correspondence, reports, and other material.
  • Serves as timekeeper for staff.
  • Serves as a receptionist.
  • Maintains personnel files.  
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of secretarial or business college, and one (1) year of secretarial experience OR completion of high school, and three (3) years of secretarial experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 55 words per minute.

 

**Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
