Job Description

The Wastewater Technician is focused on ensuring optimized operation of the on-site wastewater treatment system, ensuring continuous compliance with relevant requirements of the permit with the City of Lock Haven.  This includes daily chemistry checks, monitoring and responding to changing conditions, including chemical demand, pH adjustments, discharge monitoring, and equipment operation.  The job includes routine sampling of wastewater and stormwater, interaction with local regulatory personnel, and providing periodic samples to the City of Lock Haven POTW representatives. This role will be 1st Shift, 6AM-2PM, M-F.

In addition, the wastewater technician is responsible for waste management activities at the site, performing daily waste inspections, container check in, and scheduling and coordination of outgoing shipments.  There may be other additional activities as required and requested by management. 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: 

  • Previous experience with wastewater treatment plant operation desired. 

Other:

  • Ability to interact with site operations personnel, visitors, and guests, communicating clearly to resolve questions, address customer concerns, and mitigate upset conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift, to move materials around the site and to load outgoing shipments.
  • Ability to quickly respond to changing conditions throughout the day, in response to changing operational variables.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.  The operation is primarily PC based, and there are other business systems you will be requested to access and learn.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is required, as there is routine equipment upkeep and occasional equipment troubleshooting, repair, repiping, and coordination with onsite maintenance department.
  • Able to grasp basic technical requirements demanded for strategic materials management.  Waste inventory management, scheduling, regulatory requirements, etc.
  • Ability to take on increased responsibility, special initiatives, and leadership role
