We are looking for a Senior Underwriter Marine Hull with a focus on Ocean Hull (m/f/d), based in Hamburg.

The Impact You Will Have 

 

You will underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet Line of Business targets regionally including global elements. You will take ownership of large or key accounts and clients including negotiation of participation, pricing, and terms and conditions. Another task is to develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients due to your specialized technical expertise.

 

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

 

• Negotiate participation, pricing, terms, and conditions with brokers, actively managing capacity.
• Underwrite and assess Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of catastrophe modeling and interpretation of scenarios.
• Ensure the effective use of global pricing tools in underwriting processes.
• Proactively support the completion of policy administration and credit control processes.
• Contribute to the development and execution of the regional Underwriting strategy in Marine Hull.
• Provide training, development, and coaching to experienced staff, including Underwriters.
• Represent Allianz Commercial positively externally to the market, particularly with key brokers and distribution channels.
• Promote the active involvement of functional areas in the Underwriting process, collaborating with Market Management, Allianz Risk Consulting, Claims, and Operations.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders, such as risk managers.

 

What You’ll Bring to the Role

 

• Preferably holds a degree in Economics, Law, or a related discipline (e.g., Insurance specialized Technical (IHK).
• Completed a professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII).
• Strong significant professional experience in Underwriting Marine (Hull) or similar roles closely linked to Underwriting.
• Proficient in IIP Handling and management of international accounts.
• Specialized expert understanding of multiple sub-LoB products and portfolios.
• Demonstrated, established relationships with brokers at a peer group level.
• Ability to assess inherent risks, exposures, and natural hazards relevant to the Line of Business (LoB).
• Robust understanding of the policy administration life cycle, including information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellation.
• Ability to analyze highly complex data from multiple sources in detail, identifying and resolving issues before they transpire.
• Fluency in both German and English is mandatory.
