As our Parametric Nat Cat Underwriter, you'll design innovative insurance solutions that provide rapid payouts based on objective triggers rather than traditional loss assessments — helping clients build resilience against increasingly volatile climate events.

 

About the Role:

In this pivotal position, you'll leverage cutting-edge catastrophe modeling and analytics to develop tailored parametric insurance solutions that address complex natural catastrophe exposures for our global clients. You'll be at the forefront of insurance innovation, creating products that deliver financial certainty when disasters strike.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Support critical processes for event monitoring and post-event loss calculations
  • Lead client underwriting for Parametric Nat Cat insurance using in-house catastrophe tools and models, while developing bespoke time-series based costing models 
  • Promote parametric solutions by actively engaging with brokers and clients in collaboration with customer manager teams and ART colleagues 
  • Drive profitable growth by generating and managing a robust pipeline of transactions that enhance the Parametric Nat Cat portfolio 
  • Strengthen market reputation by positioning Swiss Re Corporate Solutions as a trusted partner through consistent, high-quality solutions
  • Orchestrate deal execution by leading cross-functional teams across Market Unit underwriting, legal, finance, and other relevant functions
  • Support critical processes for event monitoring and post-event loss calculations

 

 About the Team:

 

The global Parametric Nat Cat team owns and steers the global Parametric Nat Cat portfolio as part of our global Property book. We operate within Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' Alternative Risk Transfer unit, focusing on innovative parametric natural catastrophe transactions. This role reports directly to the Head of Parametric Nat Cat, placing you at the center of our strategic Alternative Risk Transfer vision.

 

About You:

You're an analytical thinker with commercial acumen who thrives in a dynamic environment. You combine technical expertise with business savvy to create solutions that meet client needs while driving profitable growth. You're passionate about natural catastrophe risk and enjoy translating complex data into practical insurance solutions.

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

 

  • Profound analytical capabilities with consistent decision-making skills 
  • Natural passion for and understanding of natural catastrophe risk  
  • Commercial interest and aptitude in an insurance context
  • Self-starter mentality with accountability and pragmatic problem-solving approach
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines with strong prioritization skills 

 

These are additional nice to haves:

 

  • Advanced degree in natural sciences or related field
  • Prior experience in catastrophe modeling and P&C underwriting
  • Experience working in international, cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of parametric insurance structures and alternative risk transfer mechanisms
  • Programming skills (e.g., R, Python) for data analysis

 

 

For New York and California - the estimated base salary range for this position is $164,000 to $246,000.  For Chicago, Ill and Alpharetta, Georgia - the estimated base salary range for this position is $156,000 to $234,000.

The specific salary offered for any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.  Swiss Re has a hybrid work model where the expectations is that you will be in the office three days per week.
