Associate Vice President & Assistant Dean of Health Professions & Educational Services
Overview
The Associate Vice President & Assistant Dean for Health Professions & Educational Services reports jointly to the Vice CAO & Vice Dean, Health Professions & Educational Services and the Vice Dean for Administration. This individual serves as the senior administrative leader responsible for the operational and strategic aspects of Health Professions & Educational Services, serving educational programs across the enterprise. The AVP works in partnership with senior leadership to set the vision for Health Professions and Educational Services, establish strategies to achieve that vision, and oversee operations while serving as a liaison to the Dean's Office to ensure alignment with the medical school mission, policies, and procedures. Through demonstrated collaboration, business acumen, and strategic thinking, the AVP manages programs and processes that enhance and support the success and national reputation of WFUSM and the broader enterprise.
Duties
- Vision and Strategy: 1) Collaborate with WFUSM and Health Professions & Educational Services senior leaders to set the vision for programs and services; 2) Establish and implement strategies to achieve the program’s vision. 3) Monitor and analyze performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and recommending corrective actions as needed. 4) Oversee learner and faculty medical education development, including tight collaboration with other health science programs (e.g., PA, Nursing, Graduate School) to set and achieve collective goals.
- Operational Management: 1) Oversee all aspects of education strategic operations, including accreditation, human resources, budget and financial management, facilities and space management, and information technology. 2) Manage directives and projects, serving on committees and cross-functional groups, and coordinate agendas for various forums. 3) Create and maintain resources to support the efficient function of the Health Professions & Educational Services program, including online tools, training guides, and communication channels.
- Financial Management: 1) Develop, implement, and maintain sound financial policies, procedures, and practices for education programs. 2) Conduct financial planning and management to ensure successful financial performance and ethical stewardship of resources. 3) Create effective processes, policies, and procedures to promote effective financial stewardship across all campuses and all education programs.
- Documentation and Reporting: 1) Maintain systems for documentation, information, and faculty directories. 2) Assist in development, implementation, and maintenance of grants for academic programs. 3) Work with data management and reporting systems to ensure data confidentiality, quality control, and integrity.
- Communications & Reputation Management: 1) Support effective communications related to education with internal and external stakeholders. 2) Create and contribute to reports, documents, presentations, and publications to advance educational initiatives. 3) Maintain the education awards process, distribution, and communications. 4) Work with the advancement teams to communicate key initiatives to community stakeholders. 5) Support external and internal communications to ensure effectiveness and reduce reputational risks.
- Project Management & Support: 1) Serve as Executive Sponsor to Health Professions & Educational Services programs/projects. 2) Oversee the Health Professions & Educational Services Program/Project Management team to support effective outcomes and align with strategic vision. 3) Direct and implement special projects and strategic initiatives to meet both long-term and short-term objectives. 4) Ensure timely planning, implementation, and tracking of project reporting and updates to key stakeholders.
- Human Resources: 1) Work closely with Human Resources on faculty and staff recruitment, retention, compensation, and related matters. 2) Develop effective hiring processes for faculty and staff to promote equity.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced degree preferred (PhD, MBA, JD, MHA, MS, MPH, MPP, MPA, etc.)
