Senior Software Engineer - Infrastructure Tools

We are looking for an experienced data engineer who will help us to make improvements in the capacity planning process.  Your expertise will help to guide multiple workflows and have an impact on company growth.

In this role, you will use your awesome data engineering skills to come up with solutions to complex and unique data problems. You will be involved in figuring out optimal CDN expansion plans, overseeing effects of the changes into hardware and software used at the edge, analyzing tides of customer’s traffic, and be responsible for a data processing suite that makes all of that possible. 

Upcoming projects include: developing methodology of modeling exhaustion of resource capacities; forecasting 12 months of metro traffic distribution; decreasing not-billed CPU consumption, and self-service reports for our internal customers.

This position is remote but candidates from cities with Fastly offices may choose to work from the office.

What You'll Do

• Organize raw data using solutions built by you and others
• Improve software used in data pipelines and automation of database management
• Prepare data needed for reports and analysis
• Incorporate new techniques into report generating code
• Maintain knowledge base helping others to correctly understand patterns and trends

What We're Looking For

• You have experience in developing and maintaining distributed data collection systems
• Strong software development skills, preferably in Go, Rust, and Python
• You have hands-on experience with SQL and relational data models
• Understanding of complex distributed systems (including but not limited to “how does a CDN work?”)

We value a variety of voices, so this is not a laundry list. It would be an added bonus if you have experience in ANY of these:

• Work on projects that used Google BigQuery and other Google Cloud data tools
• Your work managing automation tools (Terraform, Chef, Ansible)
• Experience with continuous data streams
• Relevant Data Science or Statistics background

The estimated salary range for this position is $150,000 to $225,000. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
