About the role

   

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Research Technician to join Dr. Gunther Hollopeter’s lab at the Department of Molecular Medicine. You will support their work by providing complex technical lab support and performing a broad range of laboratory and research related tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in biochemistry or molecular biology with 1-2 years of laboratory experience
  • Experience using structural prediction software to model protein complexes
  • Experience in preparing media, buffers, and reagents
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong laboratory skills including maintaining accurate laboratory records of experiments and preparation of data summaries
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students

Position will involve

  • Executing a variety of genetic, molecular and cell biology techniques, including cloning, protein biochemistry, structural biology, computer programming, machine learning, tissue culture, fluorescence imaging, genetic screens, transgenesis of C. elegans, genotyping of animals, and basic worm husbandry
  • Use of various microscope techniques (DIC, confocal, TIRF) to image C. elegans and protein complexes purified from them
  • Shared maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment and facility

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an on-site position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This is a full-time, 6-month, benefits-eligible temporary position with potential to extend into a regular appointment contingent upon funding and performance
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

The pay range for this position is $23.50-25.50.
