About the role

Note: This position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Gift Shop Clerk/Cashier performs responsibilities and duties related to receiving, pricing, and selling merchandise in gift shops. Duties include good customer service and maintaining a clean and inviting gift shop for visitors. Work independently, communicates effectively with visitors and staff, and provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all that visit the gift shop. Reports to the Manager of Volunteer Services & Gift Shop.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Gift Shop Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills (greet, welcome and assist all visitors).
  • Demonstrates accuracy on computer and computerized cash register.
  • Demonstrates good customer service skills.
  • Maintains, organizes and keeps shop stocked with neat displays.
  • Assists in pricing and selling merchandise in gift shops.
  • Count out correct change when tendering cash.
  • Manage returns of merchandise.
  • Ability to work independently.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent; Two or more years of college preferred
  • 2-4 years working experience.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Cash register skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Basic mathematical skills; Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change and receptive to delegated responsibilities and reassignment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity required for specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers, employees and medical personnel.
  • Flexible working hours and some weekends may be involved.
