About the role

The Security Engineering Senior Engineer is within the Technology Design and consultancy team and is to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment for the wider Security Engineering and Cyber Security teams.

 

This includes developing technology roadmaps that aligns with Security strategy to deliver capability solutions that increase Telstra’s overall Cyber Security posture.

The role will be part of a highly skilled, virtual group of technical resources to deliver solutions and tools used to protect Telstra’s Corporate network and increase the overall Security posture of Telstra, while supporting all aspects of the Cyber Security business with leading edge, workable and cost-effective technology advice, and solutions to the business.

This position provides the resource and skills for the ongoing support of the Security Engineering, Technology design and consultancy domain. In particular, the role will lead this domain for network and infrastructure security from a solution development while working with peers to understand and incorporate various accepts of the security strategy/roadmap. 

The key accountabilities for this role are:

• Provide subject matter expertise - Provide the technology team with knowledge of complex end-to-end systems and processes for a business initiative on an as-needed basis. Provide a single point design authority for the network and infrastructure security.
• Provide subject matter expertise – Provide inputs to technology road maps and solution design along with strategic view and approach from a vendor capability and future requirements for network security.
• Business acumen - Work with senior stake holders to understand the business objectives and from various domains and incorporate the requirements into solution definition.
• Stake holder management
• Solution design and traceability - Translate complex domain and solution architectures into platform specific requirements and designs. Translate and/or map business requirements to capabilities.
• Solution implementation – Work with the domain teams and leaders to help them understand and work through the strategy and solution deployment approach.
• Manage stakeholders - Manage expectations of key business stakeholders (including internal and external customers), drive change, and negotiate successful outcomes within complex environments.
• Manage vendors - Manage vendor delivery and reviews with support of the vendor management team.
• Identify risks, issues, and mitigating actions - Identify risks and issues in deploying system solutions and develop or recommend solutions to mitigate these risks and issues. Manage agreed mitigation or contingency plans to completion.
• Knowledge management - Develop extensive knowledge of new and emerging systems, including leading industry (e.g., best of breed) and competitor solutions. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the corporate memory / database for the business and area of expertise. Add to key business, program management and technology processes based on experiences gained.
• Comply with standards and processes - Comply with all relevant company processes (e.g., AGILE /Technology Delivery Process, network change processes) and ensure all deliverables meet or exceed defined quality standards.

Skill/Technical Expertise

• Analysing cyber security information     

• Designing cyber security architecture

• Setting cyber security requirements       

• Deep understanding of Network security e.g. firewalls, IPS/IDS, SSL VPN, zero trust access

• Assessing cyber security weaknesses     

• Designing complex systems       

• Previous experience as a lead Solutions Delivery or system / network security specialist is highly desirable.
