What you'll do...
You will be working on future looking initiatives that is targeted at improving in store customer experience for the 240+ million Walmart customers that shop at our stores. The mission is to create step change in-store experiences, leveraging emerging technology to help define and deliver on evolving customer expectations. Its success requires a cross- functional, mission-based team that is highly entrepreneurial, collaborative and passionate about solving the unsolved problems.
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join an organization focused on building data, training and optimization pipelines focused on identifying in-store shrink behaviors utilizing modern computer vision techniques. You will support a broad array of state-of-the-art technology areas, spanning Computer Vision, Machine Learning, designed to run on edge devices. Prospective candidates should have sufficient technical depth and breadth in the associated set of technologies to make portfolio management, resourcing and roadmap decisions.

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.
What you'll do:
Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and ensuring diversity awareness.
- Develops Innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams; partnering with cross-functional teams across the business; developing assessments of key opportunities; documenting project scopes; developing long-range plans and project timelines; communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives within the organization; and resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions.
- Leads agile teams for medium-to-large scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wire frames); communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with project team and cross functional teams; ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs; and providing leadership to the project team.
- Leads the work of six to ten engineers, for assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long- term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
