About the role

Description

The School of Nursing (SON) at Pepperdine University seeks a candidate for the Associate Dean of Prelicensure Programs for its developing Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Entry Level Master’s Degree in Nursing (ELM) programs. The Associate Dean reports to and collaborates with  the Dean of the SON while serving as the academic and administrative leader of all prelicensure nursing programs. Specific duties and responsibilities of the associate dean include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Design and administer the curriculum;
  • Manage the faculty and staff;
  • Develop and direct assessment and accreditation strategies and processes;
  • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Academic Practice Partnerships to obtain initial clinical placement sites for nursing students;
  • Develop and lead all faculty orientation and development programs;
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching in accordance with the needs of the program.
  • Assist in obtaining and maintaining WSCUC accreditation, California Board of Registered Nursing approval, and CCNE accreditation.
  • Ensuring program quality and continual improvement;
  • Coordinating the admissions process with the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management and Admissions; and
  • Coordinate with student services personnel.

In addition to their responsibilities to the SON, the associate dean will be expected to work positively and collaboratively with the Dean of the College of Health Science and the deans/directors of other academic units within the college to advance the success of the college.

Located in western Los Angeles County near Ventura County, Pepperdine University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute through their teaching, research, and service to the diversity and excellence of the University and our surrounding communities.

The SON plans to enroll its first cohort of students in Fall 2025 (pending WSCUC and BRN approval). Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The employment start date is November 1, 2024. The dean will serve an initial term of three years. Pending successful performance, the appointment can be renewed for successive terms. 

The salary for this 12-month appointment will range from $135,000 to $193,000 and reflects what Pepperdine reasonably expects to pay for this faculty appointment. Actual salary may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to salary, Pepperdine offers a robust suite of employee benefits.

The BSN and ELM programs at Pepperdine University are pending approval by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College & University Commission (WSCUC).

Qualifications

Pepperdine seeks candidates for the associate dean of prelicensure programs who have demonstrated a commitment to nursing education. Required qualifications for the position are:

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D., DNP, Ed.D, or equivalent) in nursing or a related field.
  • Prior leadership and administrative experience.
  • A record of exceptional performance as a nurse leader.
  • A record of distinguished teaching, research, and publication.
  • Possess a current RN license and be eligible to obtain RN licensure in California.
  • Compliance with the requirements detailed in 16 CCR § 1425 for appointment as a Program Director.
