About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Principal, Origination – Downstream Commercial for our Houston, Texas or Dublin, Ohio office. This senior role will drive the development and execution of commercial strategies that strengthen Cenovus’s integrated value chain and expand its commercial reach across North America. The Principal will originate, structure, and advance high-value critical initiatives, demonstrating a strong industry network and commercial competence to create long-term value. This prominent role involves collaborating across trading, refining, optimization, logistics, and business development to improve enterprise value.

What you’ll do:

• Identify, develop, and lead sophisticated commercial origination efforts supporting the refining and marketing segments, including crude supply optimization, refined product offtake, storage, and trading arrangements.
• Identify and evaluate strategic ownership, partnership, or investment opportunities in key midstream logistics assets—including terminals, pipelines, and storage infrastructure—to enhance market access, improve supply optionality, and strengthen downstream integration.
• Develop and maintain a forward-looking pipeline of pivotal initiatives that align with corporate growth and capital allocation priorities.
• Establish and nurture senior-level relationships with counterparties, joint venture partners, logistics providers, and key customers.
• Structure partnership and commercial frameworks that align interests, create mutual value, and support Cenovus’s integrated downstream strategy.
• Work across the value chain to connect crude supply, refining, and market access strategies—unlocking alignments and enabling flexible, high-margin pathways to market.
• Partner with refining operations, business development, corporate strategy, planning, trading, marketing, logistics, legal, and finance to evaluate and advance origination initiatives.
• Oversee economic evaluation, due diligence, and governance processes for partnership opportunities.

Who you are:

• Legally authorized to work in the US
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; MBA or master’s degree preferred.
• 20+ years of progressive experience in downstream or integrated energy markets, including roles in strategy, origination, or business development within a major or midstream/trading organization.
• Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic partnerships, joint ventures, or market access initiatives that drive enterprise value.
• Deep understanding of refined product markets, logistics networks, and value chain integration
• Proven ability to operate effectively in a complex, cross-functional, and fast-paced environment.
