Instron is looking for an electronic/electrical systems engineer to work in our sustaining engineering group. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively as both a design/continuous improvement engineer and manufacturing/process improvement engineer on highly complex systems in a world-class lean manufacturing environment.
Job Description
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design/Continuous Improvement Engineering
- Drives and executes design projects that resolve issues on our current product lines leading to increased function, improved quality/reliability, reduced cost or resolving open customer escalations.
- Acts as a technical resource for other functions of the business, including manufacturing personnel, Product Management, Sales, Technical Support and Field Service.
- Evaluate the failure of products to meet specifications and makes recommendations for changes to product design if required. Develops, verifies, and implements suggested changes as required.
- Manufacturing/Process Improvement Engineer
- Serves as manufacturing liaison with the Development Engineering Department on complex manufacturing problems and new product introductions. Evaluate and analyze the design componensts to determine the best methods and procedures for manufacture. Define appropriate tools, equipment, and facilities.
- Support contract manufacturing of PCBA and other electrical assemblies
- Design and maintain manufacturing test software to manage and automate the control and interaction between units under test and test equipment.
- Coding for manufacturing test fixtures using data acquisition instrumentation such as HBM and National Instruments products
- Troubleshooting of systems in manufacturing
- Design, manufacture, commissioning, and support of test equipment including structured documentation to engineering specifications.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Knowledge and skills in the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, typically acquired through the attainment of a bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or systems engineering.
- Design and manufacturing knowledge involving electronic or E/M devices, precision mechanisms, basic analog and digital circuitry, and general laboratory instrumentation.
- Understanding of PCBA design/manufacturing is desirable
- VB.Net / C# / LabVIEW development, testing, and release is preferred
- Ability to diagnose problems to the root cause. Good analytical and problem-solving ability, including an aptitude for identifying fundamentals and the ability to balance technical demands with production realities.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate project reports and process documentation.
- Strong Interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to electronically interface instrumentation to data acquisition systems and develop high-level software UIs.
- Ability to carry out systems engineering tasks with minimal coaching.
- Highly motivated with good teamwork skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot software and electronics.
- Ability to inter-relate with other disciplines.
Work Conditions:
- State-of-the-art office, laboratory, and manufacturing factory environment, with limited travel to other Instron facilities, suppliers, or customers when related to specific projects.
Reporting Relationship:
Report to the Engineering Manager, Sustaining Engineering
