The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Air Quality, is seeking to fill an Environmental Specialist III vacancy in Augusta.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This Environmental Specialist III position in the Licensing and Compliance Division of the Bureau of Air Quality is primarily responsible for data processing, data analysis, and data management within the Emissions Inventory Section. The responsibilities of the position are broad and include:
- Collection, tabulation, and dissemination of air emissions inventory data
- Review of emission inventory submissions from licensed facilities
- Review of various emissions inventory compilations and modelled data
- Emission factor research
- Data analysis related to emissions inventories and special projects
- Determination and display of outliers and trends, statistical analysis, control charting, and data visualization
- Tasks related to data quality assurance and quality control
- Report writing
This position reports to the Emissions Inventory Section Manager and works closely with staff throughout the Air Bureau. Technical writing skills are essential to this position along with a strong background in data analysis and the management of large data sets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.
Preference will be given to applicants with the following skills or experience:
- Experience with data analysis; software such as SAS JMP, R, MATLAB, and Microsoft Excel; and databases such as Microsoft Access, SQL, and Oracle
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively orally and in writing
- Experience balancing tasks related to multiple projects in a fast-paced working environment
- Experience coordinating the work of project teams, particularly technical staff working on unique aspects of environmental projects, in order to meet project deadlines
