This position leads sourcing strategy, vendor management, and performance optimization for direct materials that support MiniMed global manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for identifying value-creating opportunities, managing sourcing events, and driving cost, quality, and service excellence across a global portfolio of direct materials suppliers.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This separation provides our team with a bold opportunity to unleash our potential, enabling us to operate with greater speed and agility. As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care.

Position Responsibilities:

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management

  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives for direct materials related to global manufacturing needs.
  • Analyze spend, market trends, and supplier performance to identify cost reduction and service improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and execute category strategies that align with manufacturing and enterprise goals, ensuring compliance with FDA and ISO 13485 regulations.

Vendor Selection & Contract Management

  • Manage end-to-end sourcing processes including RFPs, negotiations, vendor evaluation, and contract development.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Quality to ensure contracts meet regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Drive supplier selection based on total value, innovation capability, scalability, and risk profile.

Supplier Performance & Governance

  • Establish performance metrics (SLAs/KPIs) and lead regular supplier reviews to ensure BPO partners meet service, quality, and cost expectations.
  • Monitor vendor risk and support the development of contingency and continuity plans across global regions.
  • Foster collaborative, strategic relationships with key suppliers to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Program Management

  • Work closely with Global Manufacturing, IT, Finance, Quality, and Compliance teams to ensure sourcing solutions support business needs and compliance standards.
  • Manage project timelines, stakeholder expectations, and communication for all BPO sourcing initiatives.
  • Track and report on savings, value realization, and program status to senior leadership.

Required Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.

Nice to have

  • MBA or Master’s in Engineering, Healthcare, or Operations
  • Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or relevant certification a plus
  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industries is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of delivering cost savings and service improvements in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Strong knowledge of contract negotiation, supplier performance management, and regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO 13485).
