Description
SUMARY:
At Nevada Heart and Vascular Center (NHVC) the Special Procedures Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direction of the Nurse Manager and physicians, is primarily tasked with assisting with special procedures within the clinical setting. The SPLPN also acts as support to facilitate safe and efficient care for patients while adhering to NHVC policies, guidelines and protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Nevada.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of one year experience working with therapeutic/diagnostic cardiovascular/vascular procedures preferred.
- Must possess knowledge of and have a high comfort level working under sterile conditions.
- Detail-oriented with good analytical and organizational skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cohesively within a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients, staff, physicians, and all levels of management.

- Maintain professional etiquette and interpersonal skills, including effective and appropriate communication with all staff, physicians, and patients at all times.
- Display time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ensure punctuality for work hours, lunch breaks, and meetings.
- Ability to defer to more senior staff, and/or correctly escalate challenges up the chain of command.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Must follow all policies, procedures, and other directives from administration including but not limited to the OSHA safety manual, corporate compliance manual, HIPAA compliance manual, and employee handbook
- Confirm completion of and review pre-procedural screening, assessment and consent form(s).
- Communicate patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcome.
- Assess patient learning/education needs for post-procedural care and provide education under the guidance of the physician.
- Prepare the sterile field, instrumentation, and supplies for each special procedure.
- Assist the physician with therapeutic and/or diagnostic cardiovascular/vascular procedures as needed while emphasizing patient safety.
- Compete accurate documentation during the procedure and correlate clinical data with the patient’s care.
- Possess knowledge of potential complications and benefits of the therapies/procedures provided by NHVC.
- Make ongoing assessments of the patient’s status while in the procedure and respond appropriately.
- Complete proper cleaning and sanitization of the procedure room.
- Ensure patient care is provided with clinical competence in a courteous and professional manner.
- Promote a positive image and maintain a helpful attitude towards patients, physicians, leadership, visitors and fellow staff members.
- Troubleshoot and escalate problems/areas for improvement within the department to the Nurse Manager as appropriate.
- Review and respond to emails received.
- Complete any additional tasks as requested by the physician.
- Document in the electronic health record as necessary.
- Ensure any paper documentation is forwarded to the proper department(s).
- Act as the main patient contact person for questions and concerns both pre- and post-operatively.
- Inventory and order all medical supplies and medications for procedures.
- Constantly be willing and able to adapt to changes in policy and/or practice.
- Must be able to arrive at shift/ location at the scheduled start time, unless approved by management.
- Attend staff and other meetings and training courses as needed.
- Adhere to company dress code.
- Complete initial and annual competencies.
- Assume responsibility for continuous education requirements.
